Back to Glenmore

Regular visitors will know how much I love Loch Morlich – for the scenery and for the fishing. The waters and the mountains are a constant source of inspiration for my art so when the chance came up to show work nearby at the Glenmore Visitor Centre, I could not refuse. It seems fitting to take my art back to where it started.

From July 21, I’ll be exhibiting a range of works at the centre, which is just off the main ski road to the Cairngorms. It’s a great wee venue providing information about the surrounding forest (run by Forestry Commission Scotland), and the cafe serves excellent cake, which is a bonus!

Among the works will be my railway poster series – with new additions to the collection specially for this show. The two paintings below – of Loch Morlich and the Lily Loch – are works in progress. And I’ll have the pine prints and mugs, including my new chunky fishy mugs.

The exhibition will be open from 9.30am to 4.30pm and will run for around 10 days. Looking forward to meeting lots of new people down there!

A wee preview

With a packed summer of exhibitions and craft fairs about to start, I’ve been busy preparing my work. Painting, framing, printing mugs and packaging up greetings cards, along with lots of other little tasks that come along with these events.

Got some new paintings framed for the various shows I’m involved in (See Exhibitions page and Events and Workshops page for more details of where I’ll be). A couple of classic fish portraits and a favourite view of Loch Morlich, looking up to the Cairngorms.

There’s a few more in the pipeline, which I’ll try and share when they’re done!

Some trout portraits

Finished these fishy portaits and am looking forward to sharing them at a new exhibition next month.

They’ll be part of the Creative Cairngorms exhibition at the Moray Art Centre, Findhorn, from April 4-30. It’s my first time showing work here but I visited recently as part of Joanna Wilson’s exhibition preview and it’s a great space.

And of course I’ve got a few more portraits in the pipeline…tight lines…

The start of fishing season

With trout season just around the corner, I’ve been working on some new fishy mugs.

Each design in this new collection is unique.

But like my paintings, I’ve been trying to imagine what’s going on beneath the surface and of course, the trout are circling the flies!

Bringing back last season’s trout

It’s the middle of winter and March still feels like a long time away. What better time to look over pictures of last season’s fish.

It was with this thought in mind that I decided to bring back to life a trout caught by my friend Mike! This picture is the first of a new series of trouty portraits for 2017. Keep a look out for them soon.

Merry Christmas!

I’m taking a break for Christmas so hope you all have a great time over the next couple of weeks.

As a Christmas treat, I’ve posted a 360 picture of my studio on my Facebook page – so you can see where I paint. The featured image is a slightly wonky view as WordPress won’t display it properly!

I’m planning to cram in some painting over the festive period so will hopefully be able to show you the results in the New Year!
